Visualizing Dengue infections in Costa Rica

Dengue virus infections are a relative common case of public health hazard in tropical countries such as Costa Rica. This personal project explores alternative visualizations of open data provided by the National Ministry of Health regarding the incidence and location of infections in 2015.

The visualization is comprised of two dimensions, a map created using leaflet.js and d3.js and a heat map using only the latter.

This was a great way for me to learn more about d3.js and other visualization techniques. The project was previously also done using R and Shiny, a web platform to deploy R scripts. I realized that for what I needed, going native with JavaScript was better, but there's still a working prototype here.
